Sunday marked 7 weeks since Porter was born and held a lot of “firsts” for us! They say that fussiness peaks at 6 weeks and things get better in the weeks to come. There was a noticeable difference between Saturday and Sunday with Porter’s sleep and interactions with us.
After a good night’s sleep we woke up Sunday morning to get ready for church. As I was changing Porter he gave me his first smile! Melt. My. Heart. It was the sweetest thing.
We arrived at church and were informed that they would be doing a baby dedication for all the babies born within the past year in the church. We were told to go up to the front at the end of the service. Great! We were excited to have a blessing prayed over Porter by our church family here. Half way through the service I am holding sweet Porter as he sleeps on me, I look down on my arm only to find orange poop all over it. I then see that he has fully pooped all over my dress. Somehow not getting any on himself or in his clothes. Seriously, how is this possible. And of course on the one day we have to get up in front of the congregation. I was laughing so hard tears were rolling down my face. We excused ourselves and went to get cleaned up. Thankfully the orange poop blended nicely with my pink dress, so it looked more like a giant wet spot. However, the smell did not blend.
I was able to feed Porter just before the dedication. We went up to the front and Micah had him over his shoulder burping him while they prayed for all the babies. Minutes into the prayer I hear a “splat” on the ground, as our son who has reflux, projectile vomited over Micah’s shoulder onto the floor. Thankfully only the people standing behind us praying noticed 🙂
We sat back down and Micah was talking to Porter about how funny it was that he pooped on me, and that is when Micah received his first smile!
Thank you Porter for making the first time you pooped on me and your first smile a memorable day for all of us.
Wow! It’s impressive that you two could laugh about that. What a scene! Way to roll with the realities. Sort of a “no-stress” intro to the dedication day, right? Oh, OK. Here we come! Lord bless you all. Porter: way to smile for the folks! Love, Mrs. OC
