We returned to Mbarara last Saturday and on Sunday went and picked up an abandoned baby for short term care. Baby Andrew is about 6 weeks old and his mom left him about a month ago, so he has been fed only cows milk out of a cup which has left him dehydrated and malnourished, weighing only 6 lbs. It has been a tiring and beautiful week with him. He was so weak when we first brought him home but amazing to see him gain strength each day!
On Monday we went to the Doctors to get the little guy tested for HIV and malaria. Praise God he is negative for both! He was a trooper the whole day.
This is what we like to call an African baby swing! Works like a charm 🙂
We are working on a long term placement for Andrew and will most likely be taking him to Watoto baby house next week in Kampala. Please be praying for him to continue gaining strength and weight. Pray for wisdom as we transition him into long term care. We just love him to pieces and are thankful to have him as part of our family for this short time.
What a beautiful little baby! Ya’ll are going to make awesome parents! I hope he is eating well and gaining his health back!
WOW. Bless the Lord for baby Drew, and for you two, offering him sustenance and love. God bless you as you help transition him to a long-term home!
Micah,
Jay said to tell you that you’ve come a long way since TPing our house. 🙂 We’re so proud of you both.
I really enjoyed reading about your adventure and will certainly continue to follow your blog! I had to laugh at the Borkert’s comment ~ I remember that “incident” well! Take care!
